Brunei Shell

Christine and I were engaged in 1973. We met while we were working in Brunei Shell. She was a nurse at the Panaga hospital. I was staying at the SRC bachelor flats, next door and working at the wireline workshop at NIA, under Pat de Alwis. I was a wireline operator servicing those land wells at Anduki, doing wax cutting and running Amerada surveys using small portable Mathey units on a trailer pulled by a Land Rover.

Our wedding

We were married on 13th September 1975 at St. Joseph's Cathedral, Miri. Fr. Carpenter performed the ceremony.

Kevin

Kevin, our first born, arrived on 10th December 1976. We brought him to Kuantan in 1977 to meet all his cousins. That cute little girl in the photo with Kevin is Siaw Ching. Behind her is Yaw Seng.

Kuantan 1977

In this photo is Ah Kao (Lee Chan Sing), my best man and Yi Ngo (No:5 sister). They met in Singapore where she was learning to be a hair dresser. They are now happily married with 4 children.

Pearl and Eugene

In 1979 Christine went to England for a one month course in industrial nursing. Shi Shan and Yoke Ngo (#7 sister) came to Lutong after their form 6 exams, to help look after the 3 children. We employed a full time nanny, Zu-Shing. I was working on Deutag D10 in the Marudi jungle.

Singapore 1980

The trip back to Kuantan always has a stopover in Singapore. After staying a night at a Singapore hotel we caught the bus at Arab Street the next morning. It was an ardous 7 hour bus trip via Rompin and Mersing.















What a way to see Singapore with a baby and 2 toddlers! We must have made this trip to visit my in-laws in Kuantan at least 7 times.

Shanghai Dobi

Kuantan became a regular annual pilgrimage for my family. We were staying above the shop where Christine's elder brother ran a dobi which later on became a furniture shop. He is now retired.

Genting Highlands, 1981

Manila, 1982

I needed a break in 1982 and took my family to Manila and Bagio for a real holiday.

Teruntum 1984

Eugene went for a swim at Kuantan beach. The sand particles are really large and easy to wipe off. Surprisingly not many people swam in the sea. Further up from Kuantan, half way to Trengganu is Cherating, a well known Club Med resort.

1986 we went to KK for our holidays. The Mt. Kinabalu National Park and the trip to the islands for snorkeling was just awesome.
